Discovery Center Programs – February 2017

The Discovery Center is Free and open to the public
Friday – Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Saturday, February 4

11:00 a.m.  Turtle Talk and Craft   Join the naturalist for a story about Maryland’s State reptile and meet the Discovery Center turtles.  A brief craft will follow.

1:30 p.m.  Science Room Fun   Join the naturalist in our Science Room for crafts, animal meet and greets, fun experiments and more.

Sunday, February 5

11:00 a.m.  Hungry Critters   Meet us inside the Discovery Center as we feed the critters!  You will be given a chance to touch a live reptile or amphibian!

2:00 p.m.  Aviary Feeding   Join us during feeding time for the birds of prey to learn about the natural history of the birds in our aviary, as well as our birds’ individual stories.

Saturday, February 11

11:00 a.m.  Pinecone Bird FeedersStop by to make your own bird feeder to take home, and watch the birds that hang around the Discovery Center feeders.  We will also take some time to identify songbirds at our feeders.

1:30 p.m.  Winter Signs WalkJoin the naturalist for a walk around the Discovery Center grounds to find tracks, nests, chews, and other signs that teach us the woods are a busy place in winter!

Sunday, February 12

11:00 a.m. Science Room Fun   Join the naturalist in our Science Room for crafts, animal meet and greets, fun experiments and more.

Thursday, February 16  

6:30 p.m.  Volunteer MeetingOpen to the public; all are welcome.  Volunteers experience many benefits -- among them companionship, a sense of responsibility and enhanced skills. There is an opportunity for everyone!

11:00 a.m.  Snowflake Discovery—Join the Naturalist to learn about snowflakes!  Make a snowflake craft and try to capture “snowflake prints” if weather permits.

11:00 a.m.  Trackin’ Through the Discovery Center   Learn to identify various animal tracks as you search the Discovery Center to complete your scavenger hunt sheet.
