Saturday, April 1

10:00 a.m. Bird Stroll   Join the naturalist for a stroll through the park looking for and listening to our local birds, as well as looking for returning migrants.

2:00 p.m. Backpacking 101   How to pack your pack, what to bring, hiking recommendations and more.

Sunday, April 2

11:00 a.m. Turtle Talk   Join the naturalist for a story about Maryland’s State reptile and meet the Discovery Center turtles.

2:00 p.m. Aviary Feeding   Join us during feeding time for the birds of prey to learn about the natural history of the birds in our aviary, as well as our birds’ individual stories.

Saturday, April 8

11:00 a.m. First Impressions   Some animals are born with a bad reputation. This interactive program shows that even creepy crawlies have their own important role in nature. Great for all ages.

1:30 p.m. Signs of Spring Hike   Join the Naturalist for a 2-mile hike searching for plants, birds, and animal activity that tell us it’s spring!

Sunday, April 9

11:00 a.m. Snakes Alive!   Learn about Maryland’s snakes and meet our Discovery Center snakes up close and personal.

2:00 p.m. Aviary Feeding   Join us during feeding time for the birds of prey to learn about the natural history of the birds in our aviary, as well as our birds’ individual stories.

Saturday, April 15

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Natural Egg Dyeing   Join us to dye Easter eggs using our homemade natural dyes made from ingredients like coffee and beets. Please bring six (6) hard-boiled eggs with you. Easter Bunny is on site!

Sunday, April 16

11:00 a.m. Mosses and ‘Manders’ Hike   Learn about basic moss identification and search for the salamanders that call the Appalachian Plateau home.

2:00 p.m. Aviary Feeding   Join us during feeding time for the birds of prey to learn about the natural history of the birds in our aviary, as well as our birds’ individual stories.

Saturday, April 22

11:00 a.m. Earth Day Hike   Celebrate Earth Day with a hike and learn about how you can make every day Earth Day at home. Approx. two miles with moderate terrain.

1:30 p.m. Creating an Owl   Join the Naturalist as we talk about the adaptations and secrets of owls. Meet one of our owls up close and then create your own.

1:00 p.m. Water Quality   Learn about the health of Deep Creek Lake, impacts, and how to help.

Saturday, April 29

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Ramp Cook Off   Enter as a cook, or stop by to taste all the ways to taste ramps! Judging 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. with tasting to follow. If you would like to pick up ramps to make your own dish, please contact the Discovery Center by April 15.

Sunday, April 30

11:00 a.m. Hound Hike   Bring your dog and hike the trails with our staff. This is a great way to get outside with your pets. Pets must be leashed and under control.

2:00 p.m. Aviary Feeding   Join us during feeding time for the birds of prey to learn about the natural history of the birds in our aviary, as well as our birds’ individual stories.
